Aakash Chopra, the former India cricketer, shared his views on Virat Kohli's unavailability for the five-Test series against England. He said he was sad that there would be no contest between Kohli and James Anderson, the England fast bowler. Kohli had pulled out of the first two Tests for personal reasons, and the BCCI confirmed that he would not play the rest of the series either. In a YouTube video, Aakash Chopra asked people not to make assumptions about Kohli's situation and to respect his decision. He pointed out that Kohli and Anderson had a fierce rivalry in Test cricket over the last ten years. Anderson had got Kohli out seven times in the longest format, but Kohli had also scored 305 runs at an average of 43.6 against him. Aakash Chopra said that Kohli must have had some serious reasons to skip the entire series against England. He reminded that Kohli had done the same thing in the Australia series in 2020-21, where he played only the first Test. He added that Kohli loved Test cricket and it was rare for him to miss so many matches in a row.
