In the presence of French President Macron, the Paris Olympic Village was officially handed over to the Paris Organizing Committee on February 29th. Ferrand, the General Manager of the Olympic Project Delivery Company (SOLIDEO), symbolically passed a key representing the completion of the Olympic Village to the Committee's President, Estanguet.
Covering approximately 52 hectares, the entire Olympic Village is located in the northern suburbs of Greater Paris, comprising 82 buildings with around 3,000 apartments. During the Olympics, it will accommodate over 14,000 athletes and staff, while during the Paralympics, it will host around 9,000.
"The timely completion proves that we have fulfilled our commitments," Macron stated during a press interview. Addressing construction workers on-site, he described the Olympic Village project as a "century adventure," urging all staff to take pride in their accomplishments.
After the Olympics, the village will be transformed into an eco-friendly community and handed over to local authorities, with plans to construct approximately 2,800 apartments benefiting around 6,000 residents.
"This is a masterpiece of French construction," said Ferrand, noting that the Olympic Village's carbon emissions will be reduced by about half compared to buildings constructed using conventional methods, thanks to the use of low-carbon concrete, timber structures, and renewable geothermal heating.
Organizers plan to furnish and decorate the Olympic Village over the next four months, welcoming athletes from around the world this summer. |
