Honestly, not winning Euro Cup this year would be a pity....
After watching England lose to Brazil in a friendly match yesterday morning, I felt compelled to write this article. Frankly speaking, with the current England lineup, coach Southgate could lead them to success, but surprisingly, despite having so many superstars, England still can't win championships under Southgate's guidance. This situation is even worse than a leash dog championship.
If you look at the current England national team, you'll notice that it has always been a collection of superstars. Players like Harry Kane, Ben Chilwell, Rice, Foden, and Saka each have market values exceeding €100 million and perform well at their respective clubs. I really like a phrase among English fans, which is that with so many superstars, England should easily win championships. But unfortunately, they haven't. In recent years, England's best achievement has been reaching the final of the European Championship, and that's it. Southgate's tactical designs must shoulder a significant portion of the blame for this.
Because I mostly watch the Premier League, I also watch England's matches. But ever since I started watching, England has always had a nickname, referring to the Three Lions as the Three Cats. There's no other reason for this besides the fact that England always has a roster full of superstars but rarely wins championships. You could say the players lack the ability, and indeed, the English media loves to exaggerate. But personally, I feel that this group of players is genuinely talented. However, with a mediocre coach like Southgate, the potential of these talented players is restricted.
But there's nothing we can do about it. The Premier League is highly competitive, and the England team is composed of stars from various Premier League clubs. If not handled properly, it's easy to cause internal strife within the team. Southgate's biggest advantage is being a cohesive force; he can make all the stars play together obediently, and they get along well with each other. This is his greatest strength. But I think Southgate should leave the England national team after this year's European Championship, especially if England still hasn't won the championship.
Southgate isn't the worst coach, but he's not particularly good either. I really like this group of England players, and I just hope that Southgate's coaching abilities won't hold back the time and talent of these gifted players. Today, I just wanted to vent a bit. If you've read this far, thank you for your patience. |
