Erling Haaland, hailed by many fans and media as one of the new generation's greatest talents, recently faced public scrutiny. This stemmed from his near-invisibility during Manchester City's match against Arsenal, resulting in a goalless draw against direct title rivals. Fans became furious, listing Haaland's declining performance data for the season, particularly highlighting his underwhelming record against the league's top-five teams, where he only managed one goal and one assist, branding him as a big-match flop.

Initially, Haaland's goal-scoring statistics appeared impressive, leading the league with 18 goals. However, compared to his previous season's record of 36 goals in 35 matches, his performance this season has been inconsistent due to injuries. The main criticism directed at Haaland this season revolves around his lack of prowess in tough matches. Facing top-five Premier League teams, he only contributed one goal and one assist, struggling to make an impact when heavily marked by opponents.

This has also contributed to Manchester City's overall decline in strength this season, especially in matches against strong opponents, where they failed to secure victories apart from against Manchester United. Some may argue that Haaland's current position atop the goal-scoring charts signifies excellent performance. However, critics believe that Haaland should be measured against the standards set by Messi and Ronaldo, who have proven themselves capable of leading teams to victory countless times in tough matches. His contemporary competitor, Mbappé, has already demonstrated his ability to perform in challenging situations through two World Cup tournaments. Haaland still needs to prove himself through numerous tough matches to meet such expectations.

Despite the skepticism, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has continued to defend his beloved player, advising critics to be cautious with their comments. Guardiola stated, "Never doubt a top striker, as he will quickly respond to criticisms with goals. Haaland is capable of doing just that." It's evident that Guardiola maintains great confidence in Haaland and hopes that he will repay this trust by showcasing his abilities in tough matches, thereby proving himself deserving of the title as one of the new generation's greatest talents.

I believe Haaland still has potential. Every person experiences low points, but I trust that his form will return.

Dismissing him after just a few rounds, typical critics... Haaland's stats this season aren't bad, but his finishing touch has been a bit lacking. Especially against Manchester United, he missed an open goal opportunity. However, even with these shortcomings, Haaland is not someone a few pundits can dismiss. In any case, in the German transfer market, Haaland's value remains at the top.

When Haaland arrived last season, it was like a nuclear bomb hitting the Premier League. However, as teams learned more about him, they figured out how to contain him. Pep Guardiola isn't too keen on using traditional target men. Even Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a formidable force, became subdued after moving to Barcelona. After leaving Barcelona for Milan, Ibrahimovic regained his dominance. Under Guardiola's management, even with top strikers like Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, they failed to secure the Champions League title. At Manchester City, Guardiola preferred agile, technically skilled forwards over tall strikers. Since Haaland's arrival, he hasn't fully showcased his potential under Guardiola. If he were to join a team like Real Madrid under a different coach, such as Ancelotti, his performance might rival Ronaldo's time at Real Madrid. Therefore, if Haaland wants to compete with Mbappé, he should consider leaving Manchester City and Guardiola. Despite scoring many goals this season, Haaland's inability to perform against top teams might limit him, especially at his peak. He could end up being overshadowed by players like Foden, similar to how Ibrahimovic played second fiddle to Messi in the past.

I feel like Haaland is the type of player who thrives on weaker opponents but fades against stronger ones. There have been several matches where it's been obvious to me. He'd score a couple of goals, but as soon as he sees the team's morale rising, he steps back. Then, when the team's on a roll, he suddenly sparks up, scoring goals left and right, resulting in a 4-0 or 3-0 victory. Haaland seems to be a player who adds the finishing touches, but I believe Manchester City needs more consistent support right now. It's tough for Manchester City at the moment, and they need stable victories rather than a player who boosts his personal stats against weaker opponents. I hope Haaland prioritizes the team's honor because a player who doesn't pursue team glory isn't a good player.

I think they each have their own unique characteristics. Trying to compare them is like creating the next Messi and Ronaldo...

Judging Haaland's ability based on one match? Those critics seem to only have the ability to talk big. Friends who've watched Haaland's games know how physically strong he is, he makes defenders look like amateurs. Under Guardiola's guidance, he's already shown the prowess of a top striker. Moreover, there aren't many traditional center-forwards left, especially from a small country like Norway. Everyone loves Haaland for his skills on the field. As for those who only criticize without looking at their own capabilities, they're probably not even worth hiring as a water boy for Manchester City.

They used to sing praises of him, but now they're nitpicking and criticizing. Critics are just shallow and opportunistic!
