We play in the gambling world every day and often talk about control. But do you know what needs to be controlled in the gambling world?
**Emotional Control:** The ability to control emotions is one of the most challenging aspects. Emotional control is essentially what we call emotional intelligence. It's a high-level skill that involves managing various factors that influence our emotions, such as things, sounds, colors, environments, memories, and more. Our emotions are constantly influenced by these factors, so our goal is to keep our emotions within a range that is conducive to our needs. For a gambler, emotional control is crucial. If emotions get out of hand, it can lead to reckless bets, exceeding limits, and irrational wagering. Even one instance of losing control can undo months or even years of progress.
**Mental State Control:** Mental state control is closely related to emotional control but not entirely the same. Emotional control forms the foundation, while mental state control is the ultimate goal. Your mental state depends on various factors such as knowledge, experience, expectations, goals, wisdom, and psychological well-being. Good mental state often means being composed and calm. We often say 'transcendence,' which is essentially a superior mental state. It's important to understand that mental states aren't innate but developed over time. As the saying goes, 'Your mindset determines your destiny,' and this applies to gambling as well. Maintaining the right mental state is essential for success in gambling.
**Wager Control:** After mastering emotional and mental control, wager control becomes more rational. Ultimately, what we can control is our wagering. We can't control our odds of winning, the game's outcomes, or even the shuffle and deal of cards. We only have control over our bets. Wager control includes controlling the amount of your bets and deciding when to bet or not. This is where stopping bets and placing bets come into play. It's easier said than done, and many people often realize afterward that they should have bet more here or less there. This type of hindsight analysis isn't scientific. What matters is controlling your bets based on your bankroll and, to some extent, your estimated odds of winning. Betting according to your bankroll is the wisest approach. Betting emotionally, haphazardly, or without a plan leads to failure in wager control, and you'll pay the price in the long run.""
