Common Mistakes in Baccarat:
1. **Mistake 1: Misunderstanding of Probability**
- The probability of three consecutive "3" outcomes is 1/8. For example, after seeing a sequence like BBPBBPBBP, and then betting against it using 3-style progression (betting on PPB), the probability of winning one bet is not 1/8 x 1/8 x 1/8 x 1/8 = 1/4096 as some might believe. This is because after seeing three consecutive outcomes, there are only 8 possible sequences left out of 4096 that can occur, so the winning probability remains 7/8. The 8 remaining sequences are detailed for better understanding.
Therefore, regardless of the sequence, once it has already occurred, the probability is 1. The probability of the sequence BBPBBPBBP, which has already occurred, is 1, and using a 3-style progression to bet against it still results in an overall winning probability of 7/8.
2. **Mistake 2: Betting Against "N" Patterns with a 2-Style Progression**
- Betting against "N" patterns using a 2-style progression, such as BBBPB, and then betting against it with PPPBP to win one unit, may seem like a natural idea with a probability of 1/32. However, it can lead to losses when facing repetitive patterns like BBBPB.
To conserve money, some players may think of adjusting their bets only after losing one or two rounds. This is done to increase the winning chances and save money. For instance, if you see BBBPB and then a "B" comes up, you might believe that if you had bet on the first round and lost, the chances of winning the remaining four rounds using a 4-style progression would be higher. Or you might wait until two "BB" have appeared before using a 3-style progression to bet on winning one round. In reality, this strategy reduces some winning and losing sequences proportionally to lower the cost. Betting only when you see a "B" means you would miss out on 8 sequences of BXXXX and 8 sequences of PXXXX. Similarly, betting only after seeing "BB" would cause you to miss out on 12 sequences of BBXXX and 12 sequences of PPXXX. Therefore, this strategy does not improve the risk-reward ratio; the winning probability entirely depends on the progression used, i.e., 2-style = 3/4, 3-style = 7/8, and 4-style = 15/16.
3. **Conclusion**
- Betting in any pattern, such as betting on B after PP (zigzag method), betting on consecutive P after PPBP, or betting on non-consecutive P after PPBPPPBP, does not affect the 50% theorem. |
