Today, let's discuss a topic: Who are the unwelcome guests at a casino?
1. Cheaters
Cheaters are the real-life versions of the gambling legends we see in movies. While there may not be actual gambling gods among us, the closest thing to them is a cheater. In ancient times, cheaters were known as the ""Eight Immortals of Gambling,"" including Positive, Raise, Reverse, Drop, Wind, Fire, Exclude, and Rumor. In today's society, these tactics have evolved, and anyone with the skills can try their luck. One of the most famous cheaters was Yao Jianyun, who mastered the art of card manipulation to the extreme. Eventually, he was caught, and his legs and fingers were broken. Cheaters like him are the people that casinos despise the most.
2. Skilled Mathematicians
This group includes individuals from various backgrounds, such as mathematicians, professors, students, engineers, and more. As long as you have strong computational skills and the ability to remain calm and focused, you can be part of this category. However, such individuals are incredibly rare. You can watch the movie ""21"" for an authentic portrayal of individuals who used their skills to beat the house. The movie is based on a real-life MIT Blackjack team that had its own secret language system for communication. The team consisted of six members: two ""spotters"" who scouted tables, remembered dealt cards, and calculated the count, two ""big players"" who were skilled mathematicians and made large bets based on the count, and two ""back counters"" who monitored casino security. This team raked in $20 million over a decade, and that was around the year 2000.
3. Arbitrageurs
Arbitrageurs are individuals who specialize in taking advantage of discounts or promotions offered by casinos, whether offline or online. With the rise of online gambling, these opportunities have expanded. However, the online gambling landscape has changed, and it's becoming increasingly challenging for players. There are reports of individuals exploiting bonuses, and the casinos have implemented stricter controls. These arbitrageurs often find themselves caught in a web of risk and suspicion.
4. Casual Players
This category includes experienced players who are familiar with the odds but play for fun and excitement. They may place small bets occasionally, not caring much about winning or losing. While casinos don't particularly dislike them, they find it less worthwhile because these players aren't making significant wagers. In the eyes of the casino, what they really want are high-stakes gamblers, not those who play casually. However, for these casual players, it's all about enjoying the game without too much commitment. They are the least unwelcome among the four categories. |
