I received a message from an unfamiliar number recently. Their first message was to ask if I was xxx (my full name). They even sent me a screenshot with my name and the date from when I was 15 years old. When I checked this stranger's profile and the screenshot, I had absolutely no idea who they were. I started to wonder if this was some kind of scam, with someone using a note I had written to piece things together and locate me. I even considered if it could be a friend, but after thinking for a few days, I couldn't recall any connection. To stay safe, I chose not to respond.
The person noticed I hadn't replied and continued to send messages. Eventually, they even left a comment on one of my posts asking me to check my private messages. My curiosity got the better of me, wondering who this person was and what they wanted. Although I couldn't place them, their profile didn't look like that of a scammer. So, I replied, "Do we know each other?" As it turns out, they were a friend I had met at a summer camp when I was 15. I felt really embarrassed because I had completely forgotten about them. They explained that they recently found old letters we had exchanged back then, which reminded them of me, and that's how they managed to track me down. They even sent me a photo from that time, and sure enough, I was in it.
As I thought more about it, I found the situation quite amusing. Lately, I've been extra cautious due to various scams and hoaxes, which caused me to doubt everything. It turns out, I misunderstood this person's intentions. Of course, with friends you haven't been in touch with for a long time, it's essential to exercise caution because you never know how people might have changed. At this stage, I'm not rushing into a meeting. If this happened to you, would you meet up with a friend you haven't been in touch with for a long time? I'm actually feeling a bit hesitant because not meeting might make me seem a bit immature. I'm not sure what to do, so I wanted to ask for your opinions. |
