"Would you still love me if I had no money?"" That's a simple phrase from a popular song in the past. Love often requires financial support, and in Vietnam, there's a man who believed his poverty couldn't bring happiness to his wife, so he chose to divorce her. But the world is full of surprises. Not long after the divorce, the man suddenly struck it rich! What would you do? Reconnect with your former love or find a new one?
A 53-year-old Vietnamese man named Hu Mei used to live in a shabby hut in the countryside. When the weather was rainy, his hut would leak, which was quite challenging. Hu Mei and his wife made a living by fishing and farming a few acres of rice paddies. They led a very impoverished life. After their son graduated from high school, he had to give up his studies and work in Ho Chi Minh City. Unfortunately, this is a common situation in Vietnam, where many children can't continue their education due to their families' financial constraints.
After getting divorced, Hu Mei attended a friend's son's wedding. At the wedding, some street vendors were selling lottery tickets, and Hu Mei bought a few. To his surprise, when the lottery results were announced, he won 750 million Vietnamese dong. With his winnings, Hu Mei returned home, built a new house, bought food for the entire village, and even donated money to repair the village's roads. Hu Mei mentioned that when he had no money, he received a lot of help from the people in his village. Now that his life has improved, he wants to help others in return.
At the end of the story, it wasn't mentioned whether Hu Mei planned to reconnect with his wife. If you were in his shoes, would you try to reunite with your former spouse?" |
