PGMOL Chief Referee Howard Webb stated at a referee summit in Loughborough that VAR should intervene more decisively in clear refereeing errors and that abusive behavior towards referees should be severely punished. Webb revealed at Tuesday's shareholders' meeting that there have been fewer major conflict incidents this season, reducing by eight compared to the same period last season.
Referees in the future will take stricter and more consistent actions, a message that has been communicated to football players and coaches. They are required to show at least one yellow card in confrontations involving two or more players. Previously, the English Football Association had made over 20 disciplinary decisions against Premier League clubs, resulting in fines exceeding £1 million, due to disputes with match officials and large-scale protests by clubs.
According to officially released information, there have been 88 yellow cards this season due to disagreements. Among them, Fulham received the most fouls, with 11 yellow cards for warnings related to speech or gestures. Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson, West Ham's Lucas Paqueta, and Newcastle's Sean Longstaff each received three warnings. |
