The first cricket club was founded in 1792, and the game was brought to the Indian subcontinent by the British in the 18th century[10]. The men's national cricket team of India took on England in their first-ever international match on June 25, 1932, during the Lord's Test, making them the sixth team to be awarded Test cricket status. India's first triumph in a Test match had to wait until 1952, or around twenty years. With just 35 victories in 196 Test matches over its first 50 years of existence, international cricket had little success. However, the arrival of the Indian spin quartet and players like Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath, and Kapil Dev in the 1970s gave the squad a boost.
