The FIFA World Cup, held every four years, is one of the most-watched sporting events globally. The dramatic and thrilling championship final of the 2022 Qatar World Cup has concluded, and the next edition will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. FIFA announces the launch of a limited edition digital collectible in the latest press release.
In preparation for the upcoming tournament, the International Football Federation (FIFA) reveals plans to release limited edition digital collectibles later this week. These NFTs will grant holders special privileges, offering them the chance to attend the final of the 2026 World Cup. The statement mentions the initial release of 100 digital collectibles, showcasing the rarest items, with an opportunity to win tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. Additionally, 900 other digital collectibles will be released on the Polygon network and made available on the OpenSea platform.
FIFA initially collaborated with Algorand, and the first NFTs were minted on that blockchain. However, the upcoming series will transition to Polygon, and all future releases of FIFA digital collectibles will utilize the Polygon blockchain.
In a parallel announcement, FIFA discloses a collaborative initiative with blockchain company Modex, which will take over the "strategic management" of its digital collectibles platform. Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex, expresses in a statement that digital collectibles enhance fan interaction with their favorite players, teams, and matches. Modex is honored to support FIFA in achieving this goal.
Notably, various companies in the crypto industry have previously partnered with professional football teams to leverage professional sports as a means of connecting with consumers. Examples include the sponsorship agreement between the OKX exchange and Manchester City Football Club, and the collaboration between the fantasy sports gaming company Sorare and the English Premier League. |
