When it comes to Tesla, many people immediately associate it with Elon Musk, the world's richest person, and his electric cars. However, in history, there is another person who is closely related to the name Tesla. That person is Nikola Tesla, known as the man closest to God and the greatest inventor in the world.
Born in 1856, Tesla mastered and was fluent in eight different languages. He was a physicist and inventor, acclaimed as the father of alternating current, the father of radio, the father of free energy, the father of radar, the father of X-ray photography, the father of solar energy, and more. Simultaneously, he was a poet, philosopher, music connoisseur, pigeon breeder, linguist, Vedic scholar, and more. Throughout his lifetime, he had over 1,000 inventions, held 700 patents, and was regarded as a genius by countless science enthusiasts, as his ideas and inventions were at least 100 years ahead of his time.
However, even such a remarkable individual had a troubled past. In the autumn of his 21st year, Tesla developed a passion for gambling, leading to skipping classes and losing the eligibility for a scholarship application. Upon learning about Tesla's indulgent behavior, even his cousin, who had been supporting him financially, suspended the aid. Tesla had a strong inclination for gambling, often betting high amounts with friends, to the point where one of his card-playing companions lost all of his property. After receiving a secret "report" from a classmate, Tesla's father found him, but there was little he could do. It wasn't until the police arrested Tesla, who was gambling on spinach (a code word for poker), and brought him home, that Tesla's heartbroken father fell fatally ill and passed away at the age of 60. Devastated by the news that his father had died because of his actions, Tesla's world collapsed. However, not long after, Tesla returned to gambling.
Unable to tolerate his behavior, Tesla's mother decided to fight fire with fire. She handed Tesla a thick roll of cash, allowing him to enjoy his losses fully. After losing everything, he could return home. Although the mother's approach was intended to make Tesla sober up, in reality, Tesla did not completely quit gambling. Later, while working in Budapest or for Edison, he still enjoyed playing cards and billiards. However, he had learned to restrain himself and exercise moderation. |
