December 27 News: Kuminga's desire for more playing time is part of a larger issue facing Steve Kerr and his coaching staff. Gary Payton II has been sidelined since November 28 due to a right shin injury. He was cleared to practice last week and had a session on Wednesday. Although Kerr does not have a specific timetable for Payton's return, it is likely to happen this week.
Draymond Green is also expected to return soon, with reports suggesting a possible return in January. This means Kerr will have to make more adjustments to the lineup.
"I think about it every day - it's my job, of course," Kerr said. "It's really hard. In some seasons, your top nine players are very obvious, and you just play those guys. The 10th through 14th guys understand their roles and work with them. You try to get them accustomed, keep them in shape."
"This year is very different in that regard. We can rotate 13 players. Everyone is eligible to play, and everyone has a chance to prove they should play, but you can only put in nine or ten guys. It's a very difficult decision."
"With Gary coming back, Draymond coming back, those issues become more pronounced, and we as a coaching staff have to figure it out."
