At Newlands, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets to draw the series even at one. India won thanks to a final-shot stroke from Shreyas Iyer. Earlier, India needed to win this Test and square the series after an exciting first session on Day 2. In the first session, seven wickets fell, and in the second innings, South Africa was bowled out for 176 runs. Aiden Markram amassed an incredible 103 runs on a pitch where wickets were falling quickly. Apart from Markram, none of the Proteas batsmen scored more than twenty runs, with only Dean Elgar (12), David Bedingham (11) and Marco Jansen (11) reaching the single digit mark.
