West Indies captain Stephan Pascal chose to bowl first after winning the toss. He had faith in his potent bowling lineup to perform admirably against South Africa. With a barrage of boundaries, Lhuan-Dre Pretorius took control early on. However, Deshawn James took an early wicket when Steve Stolk (5) misjudged a swipe towards the off-side, which allowed the alert Pascal to take an easy catch. However, Pretorius persisted in trying to make shots and even made the opening six of the competition against Nathan Sealy. But in his next over, Sealy struck out the left-hander with such beauty that he ended up laughing the hardest. For the next few, David Teeger and Richard Seletswane held the fort.
