As Ronaldo gradually moves away from the mainstream stage, or perhaps due to his explosive interview remarks two years ago, he has frequently made stunning comments in recent interviews. Recently, Ronaldo once again made explosive remarks, stating that both the Ballon d'Or and FIFA Best Men's Player awards are losing their credibility. Considering that Messi has won these awards for the past two years, it inevitably raises suspicions of sour grapes.

Messi's victory over Haaland for the Best Men's Player award in 2023 has sparked huge controversy. Most fans believe that Messi should not have won the award for that year because the selection criteria did not include the World Cup, and Messi falls short compared to his competitor Haaland in other aspects. Ronaldo recently expressed his views on this matter in an interview with Portuguese media, stating that the prestige of the Ballon d'Or and Best Men's Player awards is being undermined by themselves.

Ronaldo said, 'FIFA's awards are losing credibility, and we must analyze the entire season. It's not that Messi, Haaland, or Mbappe don't deserve it. I just no longer believe in those awards.' Ronaldo believes that he no longer cares about these awards and thinks there are better statistics to prove who the best player is, and that is the number of goals. He proudly mentioned that surpassing Mbappe, Haaland, and Kane in total goals in 2023 is more meaningful than any honor because awards may deceive, but numbers never lie.

Of course, some argue that Ronaldo's statement is lacking, as the Saudi Professional League where he currently plays is weaker than other leagues, so the goal numbers may be inflated. Ronaldo responded to this concern, stating that football professionals know that scoring goals is difficult whether in Saudi Arabia, Italy, Spain, or Portugal. When asked about retirement, he expressed that his only goal now is to work with Portugal to win the European Championship this year. As for when he will retire, as long as he can still play, he will continue playing.

Do you think the prestige of the Ballon d'Or and Best Men's Player awards is gradually declining, as Ronaldo suggests? Feel free to share your opinions!

The only thing I admire about him is his professional attitude; otherwise, his football skills are just above average.

I feel that Cristiano Ronaldo is just too honest. Perhaps many people think he shouldn't say it out loud, but it is indeed the truth, isn't it? He might be voicing the sentiments of many.

It's truly startling to hear Cristiano Ronaldo say something like this.

NBA experiences both strong and weak draft years. In every sport, there are top-tier athletes who elevate the prestige of a project, such as tennis with the triumvirate of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. Their retirement does indeed dim the luster of the sport. Football is no exception; the fading dominance of legendary figures leaves a void, and successors struggle to fill their shoes, a well-known fact. However, when Cristiano Ronaldo says he doesn't care about these awards anymore, I sense a tinge of bitterness. Even if he did care, it's a foregone conclusion that he won't be winning them, a fact that's set in stone.

The prestige of the FIFA Best Men's Player award is indeed continuously diminishing, but the Ballon d'Or still retains substantial significance. As for Cristiano Ronaldo, he seems to have little connection with these two awards now. Perhaps, after retiring in a few years, he will become a guest at award ceremonies.

I think what Cristiano Ronaldo said is right. Unfortunately, in the current environment, there are too few people who play football just for the love of the game like before. Everyone now seems to prioritize money, and it's not the athletes' fault – it's just the way the overall environment is. Club owners are also like that. If athletes are perceived as having no value, they are discarded without hesitation. It's really hard to put into words.
