Former England captain Michael Atherton has heaped praise on spinner Shoaib Bashir for his ‘nerveless’ performance on his debut. After missing the first Test due to a visa issue, the young spinner got a chance to play in the ongoing second Test in Vishakhapatnam. While England were unlikely to tinker with the winning combination, they were forced to make changes to the team after a knee injury ruled Jack Leach out of the game. Leach was replaced by Shoaib Bashir and the youngster pretty much justified the faith shown in him by the team-management. He gave England the first breakthrough by dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma for just 14 runs. Later in the game, Shoaib Bashir dismissed Axar Patel as well. And his performance made a big impression on Michael Atherton. Shoaib Bashir impressed everyone with his debut performance as a spinner. He missed the first Test because of a visa problem, but got a chance to play in the second Test in Vizag. England had to change their team because Jack Leach got injured. They picked Shoaib Bashir instead and he proved them right. He got the first wicket by getting rid of India captain Rohit Sharma for only 14 runs. He also got Axar Patel out later. Michael Atherton praised him a lot. Michael Atherton praises Shoaib Bashir: He told Sky Sports that Shoaib Bashir was calm and confident on his debut. He also said that he had the right temperament for Test cricket. “He bowled very well today, 28 overs. He looked very cool. He was accurate all the time. And the pitch was not helping him or anyone else, really,” Atherton said. He gets a lot of bounce because of his height and the overspin he puts on the ball. The best moment for him was when he got Rohit Sharma out." “That was a big wicket, because India’s batting is not very experienced for them. Shoaib got him early, got another wicket and took a catch too, so he had a great day. The most important thing is that he showed he can handle the pressure today; a brilliant day for him,” he added.
