The young opener had a few lucky escapes early on, but he made the most of them and scored 104 off 147 balls. It was a crucial knock for Gill, who had been under pressure after failing in Test cricket recently. As per a report by Indian Express, he was even on the verge of being dropped for the Test match and asked to play Ranji Trophy to improve his game.The report said that Gill got the warning after his zero in the second innings of the first Test and he was likely to join Punjab for their Ranji Trophy game against Gujarat from February 9 if he flopped in this match. “I will go and play the Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat in Mohali,” Gill told one of his relatives.Gill scored 104, but India kept losing wickets as James Anderson got rid of the openers in the morning and England wrapped up the innings in the third session in Vizag.Hartley claimed four scalps with his left-arm spin before Ahmed got rid of the defiant Ravichandran Ashwin for 29 with his third wicket England’s spin duo of Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed bowled India out for 255, leaving the visitors with a mammoth target of 399 to win the second Test after Shubman Gill’s ton on Sunday.Gill completed the hundred with a single off rookie spinner Shoaib Bashir and acknowledged the applause of the Sunday crowd.
