A Powerball ticket sold in California has made its owner the fortunate winner of a nearly $700 million jackpot.
Since June 5, 2021, there had been 40 consecutive Powerball draws without a jackpot winner, leading to the prize soaring to $6.998 billion on the 4th day. This marks the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history and the seventh-largest in U.S. lottery history, with odds of winning the jackpot being 1 in 292.2 million.
The winner can choose to receive the entire prize as an annuity over 29 years or opt for a lump sum payment of $4.96 billion. However, both options are subject to taxation. |
