Washington Freedom have appointed former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting as their head coach for the next season of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024. Ponting will replace Greg Shipperd, who guided the team to a third-place finish in the first season. Ponting has a lot of coaching experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is currently the coach of Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He has also coached Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Australian men’s team in the shorter formats of cricket. Ponting said that he was thrilled to join Washington Freedom for the 2024 season. He said that he was keen to help develop cricket in the US. He also said that he was honored to follow his friend Greg Shipperd as the coach.
