Do Messi and Ronaldo really have a feud? What's the real story behind it?
Over the course of his nearly 20-year professional career, Messi has faced numerous opponents and had the opportunity to exchange jerseys with many players after matches. Despite being a superstar, Messi has no airs and usually agrees willingly to opponents' requests. Many people wonder how Messi handles the jerseys he collects. Well, Messi doesn't just casually discard them! He has a dedicated room in his house for jersey collection, and you can see that almost an entire wall is covered with jerseys.
His collection includes jerseys from well-known stars like Raúl, Totti, Agüero, as well as jerseys from some lesser-known players, all of which Messi treasures dearly. Even though Messi's team, Barcelona, is a fierce rival of Real Madrid, he has collected jerseys from three Real Madrid players: Raúl, Di María, and Casillas, but interestingly, he doesn't have Cristiano Ronaldo's number 7 jersey.
To understand this, we need to go back to Messi's personal habits. After matches, Messi doesn't have the habit of actively requesting to exchange jerseys with other players. The only jersey he ever asked for in his career was from Zinedine Zidane, his childhood idol. Since then, Messi has never actively sought to exchange jerseys with anyone, and Cristiano Ronaldo has a similar habit. As a result, in their many encounters on the field, they've never exchanged jerseys.
It's not due to any special feud; it's simply a shared habit.
There's an interview that further illustrates their relationship. When Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were asked by the media if they would miss each other, they responded as follows:
Messi: "Everything was beautiful, especially during his time at Real Madrid. We met often in Spain."
Cristiano Ronaldo: "Messi and I have been on this stage for over ten years. Just the two of us. I don't know if there has ever been a case of two players who have been at the same level for so long in football history. The relationship between me and Messi is very good."
As the Messi-Ronaldo era gradually ages, let's cherish it while it lasts. |
