I watched the Arsenal vs. Liverpool match in the early morning recently. Arsenal eventually won 3-1, reclaiming the second position. They are three points ahead of Manchester City, who played two fewer games, and only two points behind Liverpool. The title race this season has become a three-horse race, with Aston Villa and Tottenham ready to join. Unlike other leagues, the Premier League is highly competitive.

Whether it's the title race, top-four battle, or the fight for sixth or survival, the competition is intense. This is why the Premier League has thrived – every match is captivating, and teams strive for their goals. The competitiveness of the league stems from clashes among all sides. Even teams facing relegation receive substantial bonuses, providing them with funds to strengthen their squads and challenge stronger teams, leading to unexpected outcomes and upsets.

While this has boosted the Premier League's popularity and influence, it has also invited mockery from fans of other leagues, dubbing it "English roughness." Despite its wealth and high visibility, English teams often lose to smaller clubs in European competitions. Is this perception accurate? In reality, the Premier League has won three out of the last four Champions League titles, with the only exception being the year Real Madrid won it. This demonstrates the competitiveness of English teams.

The development of the Premier League has led to concerns from other leagues, particularly from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. Their anxiety is evident in the creation of the European Super League. However, it seems like an overreaction. Real Madrid and Barcelona remain the most influential clubs globally, and it will take at least a decade for the Premier League to potentially surpass them, assuming these Spanish clubs face a decade of decline – a highly unlikely scenario. Therefore, their urgency to establish the ESL remains unclear.

In the year 2023, Manchester City; 2022, Real Madrid; 2021, Chelsea; 2020, Bayern Munich. The knockout stages of 2024 have yet to be played. Will you directly award the title to Manchester City or Arsenal? Four years, three crowns.

As for the ESL, if it weren't for the intervention of the UK government, those American owners in the Premier League would be even more jubilant than Real Madrid and Barcelona. They invest in football to make money, not all for passion like Abramovich. The Premier League is now mostly owned by Middle Eastern, American, and Chinese bosses, with few British owners remaining. Despite being the birthplace of modern football, besides Liverpool, most Premier League clubs lack the historical depth. Only Liverpool and Manchester United have the qualifications to be considered football powerhouses, while teams like Chelsea and Arsenal don't. As for Manchester City, with only one Champions League title in their history, it will take them at least 50 years to be considered a powerhouse. Even AC Milan from the long-declined Serie A can confidently claim superiority over many Premier League teams.
