The Russian Premier League operates on a home-and-away double round-robin format, with the winner of each match earning 3 points, the loser receiving none, and each team earning 1 point in the event of a draw. Final rankings are determined by total points, with ties broken first by head-to-head points, then by head-to-head victories, goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, total victories, total goal difference, total goals scored, and total away goals scored. The league champion qualifies for the following season's UEFA Champions League group stage, the second-place team enters the Champions League qualification rounds, and the third and fourth-placed teams enter the UEFA Europa League. The bottom two teams are relegated to the First Division. The teams finishing third from bottom and fourth from bottom in the Premier League, as well as the third and fourth-placed teams in the First Division, compete in two-legged promotion/relegation playoffs, with the winners earning spots in the following season's Premier League. (UEFA and FIFA jointly announced on March 1, 2022, that Russian national teams and clubs are prohibited from participating in FIFA and UEFA competitions. Therefore, there are no European competition spots for the 2022-2023 season.) |
