President Bukele has made another big move! That's right, El Salvador's Bitcoin cold wallet has just received a large-scale transfer, totaling 5,689 bitcoins! This guy really knows how to make bold moves!
Since 2021, El Salvador has been leading the way by adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, making waves globally. President Bukele has been actively pushing various Bitcoin policies, such as developing wallets, issuing a $1 billion Bitcoin bond, and even introducing the Bitcoin citizenship investment program. Honestly, he's really committed! So today, he's not just anyone. He directly announced this big news on social media: We've moved a bunch of bitcoins into the cold wallet, and we've even placed that cold wallet in the physical treasury. Oh, you could say this is our first Bitcoin piggy bank! Haha, although the quantity isn't huge, this is indeed honest labor!
He even publicly disclosed the address of this cold wallet, isn't that strengthening our commitment to Bitcoin and transparency? According to data from the Bitcoin browser Mempool, there are currently 5,689 bitcoins in this cold wallet, worth approximately $381 million. Additionally, according to NayibTracker's data, our government's treasury also holds an additional 2,864 bitcoins, worth about $191 million. President Bukele previously mentioned that these 2,864 bitcoins are not included in the government's revenue from services such as the passport program, mining, or assisting local businesses in converting bitcoins into dollars.
Wow, this move has garnered a lot of praise! For example, HODL15Capital said: "Really appreciate this transparency! This truly embodies the spirit of Bitcoin!" And I heard that this cold wallet has also received many community airdrops! It is said that there are about $700 worth of satoshis (also known as sats, in Chinese called "satoshi," which is one hundred millionth of a BTC) in donations, some of which are rare satoshis marked as "pizza" and "retro." Pizza satoshis are from the event where early Bitcoin contributor Laszlo Hanyecz bought two Papa John's pizzas with 10,000 bitcoins on May 22, 2010; and retro satoshis refer to the satoshis mined within the first 1000 Bitcoin blocks. |
