The seating position of a poker player can be divided into three categories: early, middle, and late, all relative to the position of the button, which is the position of the dealer. In a poker game, the player to the left of the button is the first to make decisions, proceeding clockwise until the last player, who is in the position of the button.

Your seating position in a poker game is one of the crucial factors in determining your chances of winning. If you are the last player to be dealt cards, you have the advantage of observing the betting patterns of your opponents and inferring the strength of their hands, allowing you to make appropriate decisions regarding raising, calling, or folding. Conversely, if you are seated in an earlier position, you lose the opportunity to observe the betting actions of your opponents and become a subject of observation by players seated later. This illustrates the importance of a player's position in a poker game.

A player's position at the table is determined by the dealer, which is a critical strategic factor in online Texas Hold'em poker. Players seated directly to the left of the dealer, including the blinds, are considered to be in early positions. This position is disadvantageous because players cannot observe how opponents will react before making their own decisions.

Players in early positions may face re-raises from other players if they choose to call or bet with a relatively weak hand, making the cost of playing the hand higher. However, if the re-raiser indeed has a strong hand, players in early positions may have no choice but to accept defeat. Similarly, players in early positions may find it challenging to increase the pot size through betting unless other opponents also believe their hands are strong enough to call.

Players seated directly to the right of the dealer, including the dealer themselves, are considered to be in later positions. This position provides players with a strategic advantage as they can observe how opponents react before making their own decisions.

Players in later positions have a significant opportunity to increase the pot size through betting and raising if they have a strong hand. This position provides players with informational advantages. By observing how opponents bet, players in later positions can make proactive decisions, making their gameplay more efficient.

The dealer occupies the most advantageous position (referred to as "having the button") because they have the advantage of being the last to act. If there have been no bets or raises before them, the dealer can even decide to bluff with a hand that is remarkably weak.

Of course, strong hands can be played from any position, but weaker or marginal hands should be played by players in later positions.

Sometimes it's also a matter of mindset.
