How to Become a Professional Blackjack Player

Introduction
In most rule sets, a skilled player can indeed gain an advantage over the casino. Below are some fundamental strategies on how to become such a player:

1. Familiarize Yourself with the Rules of Blackjack
Before you start playing for real money, make sure you are well-versed in the rules of the game. While the basic rules of blackjack are the same, there may be differences between different casinos. These differences can affect your decisions to varying degrees, thus impacting your income and losses.

2. Master Basic Blackjack Techniques
Statistically, for a single round, there exists only one optimal playing strategy, which we call basic technique or strategy. Proficiency in this basic technique is crucial for every player because all successful systems are based on it.
If a player can execute the basic technique perfectly, their position is very close to that of the dealer, even playing on equal terms with the dealer. Typically, they have a disadvantage of around 1%, but under more favorable rules, they may even have an advantage. You should ensure that your basic technique conforms to the specific game rules of the casino.

3. Learn How to Wisely Manage Your Finances in Blackjack
Even the best blackjack players in the world go through losing phases; this is a scientific fact that no one can avoid. Many capable players are also not familiar with this "destructive element." They use too much of their funds for blackjack, without setting limits. In unfortunate times, they will inevitably lose all their savings, despite making all the right decisions during the game and being eager to know where things went wrong. A wise player will know when to leave the casino. When they lose a certain number of chips, they will not continue to stay in the room.

For example, here's a rule: only play with 1% of your total wealth. If your total wealth is $10,000, then you can only use $100 to play. Of course, you should establish your own rule, but remember to strictly adhere to it. If your skills give you a 1.5% advantage, there is still about a 5% chance that you will lose all your chips. As you increase your bets, you have the opportunity to win more money, but at the same time, you also have the possibility of losing more money. Conversely, when you decrease your bets, the expected winnings will decrease, and the potential losses will also decrease.

4. Choose a Card Counting System and Master Its Use in Blackjack
Most players do not surpass basic techniques in blackjack. However, for professional players, there are many ways to gain an advantage beyond what basic techniques can achieve. By applying a card counting system, you can gain additional advantages and indeed maintain an edge over the casino. This has been proven by many players.

There are many card counting systems to choose from, and generally, the more comprehensive the system, the better. However, it is not necessarily the case that only the most comprehensive card counting systems can gain an edge over the casino. The more comprehensive the card counting system, the more difficult it is to master. You must be aware that if you make mistakes in just 2-3 out of 100 rounds, you will lose your advantage entirely. If you are using a complex system that you have not fully mastered, it is better to use a simpler system that you can use perfectly.

One of the simplest card counting methods is defined as follows: assign a value of 1 to cards 2 through 6, a value of 0 to cards 7 through 9, and a value of -1 to cards 10 through Ace. This system is called the HI-LO system. By continuously recording the cards dealt by the dealer, you can determine when the cards are advantageous or disadvantageous to you. When you keep track, you only need to remember one number. After reshuffling, you must reset your accumulated count to zero. When the dealer deals cards, you add up the values of the cards they deal and record the sum.

For example, if the dealer deals the cards 7, 10, 2, 5, and 9 in the first round, using this card counting system, you would record it as: 0 + (-1) + 1 + 1 + 0 = 1. This 1 is the number you need to remember. In the second round, if the dealer deals A, 2, 5, 10, 2, and 8, then it would be -1 + 1 + 1 + (-1) + 1 + 0 = 2. Then you add this 2 to the accumulated count from the previous round, which would be 2 + 1 = 3. This 3 is the accumulated value you need to remember, and so on, continuing in a loop. When this accumulated value is positive, it indicates that the remaining cards are more favorable to the player on average. A negative value represents that the remaining cards are less favorable to the player on average. You should learn how to continue counting cards and be able to keep up with the pace of the dealer dealing cards. If you know how many decks of cards the dealer is using, that is even better. You can estimate the number of remaining cards, know whether it will be more advantageous or disadvantageous to you, and calculate the best action based on the accumulated value.
