The England national team has indeed been shining in recent years, producing many well-known football stars. Most of their players are either in their prime or emerging talents. However, even with such a luxurious squad, the position of the number 9 striker in the England team is currently a cause for concern. Although the current starting forward, Harry Kane, is still in his peak years, he has already turned 30, and how long he can maintain his peak form remains uncertain.

The selection of the number 9 striker for the England team has traditionally been uncontroversial. Kane is not only one of the strongest center-forwards in the world today, but his consistent fitness has also kept him in the starting lineup for England. However, as he ages, people will naturally start looking for the next Kane. Unfortunately, at the moment, apart from Kane, there is no clear replacement for the center-forward position in England. Kane's usual backup, Ivan Toney, is currently banned from playing due to a gambling-related suspension, and the newly called-up Eddie Nketiah is still relatively inexperienced, making the situation tricky for England coach Gareth Southgate.

Southgate has also considered other options, such as the emerging star Fergie, who is currently playing for Brighton. Fergie, at just 18 years old, has already made a name for himself in the Premier League, scoring a hat-trick last year at the age of 18, making him a highly sought-after talent. However, unfortunately for England, Fergie has decided to play for the Irish national team, although he is eligible to represent England. Therefore, Fergie won't become the next main striker for the England team.

When Southgate talked to the media about Kane's successor, he jokingly mentioned the possibility of trying to recruit Erling Haaland. The reason being that Haaland, despite being Norwegian, was born in Yorkshire, England, before returning to his home country at a young age. From a birthplace perspective, Haaland could have chosen to play for England. However, he has already played for Norway, so representing England is no longer an option.

Finding a successor for Kane may take some time. Therefore, for Southgate, perhaps hoping for Kane to maintain his long-term stability and avoid injuries would be the more practical choice.
