It is raining in Sri Lanka and a lot of Asia Cup matches are getting affected, like the crucial India vs. Pakistan match. Why in the first place was Sri Lanka elected to host Asia Cup matches despite the bad weather?

Yes, it is currently the rainy season in Sri Lanka, but the drainage system of Sri Lankan grounds is very efficient and so is the ground staff. They have all the provisions to quickly dry the ground after rains and continue the game. So, it is not a bad decision to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

Today’s cricket has all the rules like DLS and reserve days to counter rains. Because the Asia Cup matches only happen in Asian countries, ACC has to choose a country that can smoothly conduct the tournaments. As there is a World Cup next month in India, Sri Lanka was a good choice.

The ACC did shift some of the matches to Pakistan in this Asia Cup. But team India refused to play in Pakistan due to the political state of both countries. That’s why the match between India and Pakistan was forced to happen in Sri Lanka and it rained.
