Kohli & Smith, both have been since their U19 days, now play the same position in their respective teams and have found their place in the most talented batters list of the current generation. But if we compare them by their stats… who is better?

Smith is better than Kohli in tests only, while Kohli is better than Smith in ODI’s and T20’s.
In tests, Smith’s average is around 60 while Kohli’s average is around 50. Playing fewer matches than Kohli, Smith has more runs, catches and wickets in tests.

Meanwhile, Kohli has totally outnumbered Smith in the other two formats.

Overall, Kohli is a better player by stats. This is because the stats of Smith in white ball format don’t favour him over Kohli. Kohli is a run machine in white ball cricket. Even his recent form has shown such performance.

While Smith is a red ball monster. Go anywhere in the world and Smith will score runs.

Including all the three formats, Kohli has better numbers than Smith. But we can’t compare them by this metric. Smith has played fewer games than Kohli and doesn’t find his place in the T20 squad.

Both are equally talented cricketers. Smith may outscore Kohli in tests… but overall both are equal in my opinion.
