Whenever there is a cricket match of South Africa, the abbreviation used is RSA and not just SA. Why is that?

RSA stands for the Republic of South Africa. Internationally, each country is assigned a unique three-word code like IND for India and PAK for Pakistan. This is the reason South Africa is written as RSA in cricket matches.

In cricket matches and every other sport, South Africa is written as RSA because RSA is the three-word abbreviation for South Africa assigned by the International Olympic Committee because each country needs to have a three-word code to play competitive sports internationally.

The Republic of South Africa (RSA) is the official name of the country. This is why we see “RSA” written during South African cricket matches.
