Cricket has evolved consistently over the years. In contrast to the cricket we are accustomed to watching, the game about 40-50 years back was a lot tougher. This applied to batsmen, who used to play without a grilled helmet and faced a barrage of fast bowlers bowling at over 140km/h. How do you look at the change to what you observe today?

Yes. Without a doubt, cricket was tough in the 70s-80s.

However, batsmen back then had a sense of fearlessness that was evident in their batting and run-scoring ability. Take, for instance, Sir Vivian Richards, a man who was ahead of his time and used to score runs with a strike rate of 90, something that was completely unheard of. Imagine hitting fast bowlers left right and center, without a grilled helmet, and scoring tons of runs. This was the toughness shown by a legend of the game.

Cricket wasn’t like this always.

Cricketers back then barely complained or whined about getting exposed against some of the best bowlers of their generation. Instead, they made their bats do the talking and went on to become legends, whose innings are still talked about today for the greatness they achieved.

Oh yeah, can't argue with facts!

Imagine facing someone like Malcom Marshal, Joel Garner in their prime without a helmet.

That’s a nightmare in front of you!

Batsmen still faced them and made a career out of this. It was a surprise that India managed to beat these forces in the 83 CWC and did it in style.
