21 points, also known as Blackjack, originated in France and is the most common game in all casinos. If throwing dice is the most energetic and lively game in the casino, then twenty-one is the calmest and most intelligent gambling game.

Twenty-one is the only game in the casino where players need to count cards, meaning they must remember all the cards that have been played and then decide how to play the remaining cards. The odds of drawing cards after each hand in the game of twenty-one vary depending on the cards that have already been used. Therefore, apart from video poker, twenty-one is the only gambling game where players of any skill level can compete against the dealer.

Winning money through playing twenty-one is not an easy task, but some professional players have indeed won six-figure sums in the game of twenty-one. As a result, twenty-one has continuously been analyzed by a large group of computer hackers, mathematicians, writers, and professional players in various ways. If dice rolling and slot machines have formed entire subcultures, then twenty-one has formed an entire universe.

21 points, as the name suggests, means that the total points of the cards held by the player in the game cannot exceed 21 points. In the game, players are dealt cards and can request additional cards. According to the rules, they compare the hands to see who gets closest to 21 points, and that player wins. While there is an element of luck in the game, experienced players can calculate the probability of drawing cards through logical analysis to increase their chances of winning.

Card Counting in 21 Points

In 1962, Dr. Edward Thorp, a professor at the University of California, published the book "Beat the Dealer," revealing that you can beat twenty-one with card counting. Players use card counting to analyze information about the cards before shuffling in twenty-one and find opportunities to bet. In the long run, card counters have an advantage over the dealer of 0.5% to 1.5%, but the advantage is not very significant in the short term. To be successful at card counting, one must count cards quickly and memorize the strategy chart.

One method of card counting assigns +1 point to cards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, -1 point to 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, and 0 points to 7, 8, 9. Then, for each card that is dealt, players mentally add or subtract points. If the card count is positive, indicating that there are more low cards in the cards that have already been played, the chances of high cards appearing in the future increase. This is advantageous for the player, and they should place larger bets. When a player determines that their chances of winning have significantly increased, they bet big; when the chances are low, they bet small. This way, they win big when they win and lose little when they lose, which can lead to victory over the dealer in the long run.

Although 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace are all worth -1 point, players should keep a separate count of how many Aces have already been played because when there are many Aces left in the undealt cards, the chances of getting a blackjack (an Ace and a 10-point card) increase, and players should increase their bets. When a player has an Ace in their hand, they are more likely to draw a 10-point card to reach 21 points.
