"Have any of you ever heard the phrase 'Never wash your jeans'? That's right! It's something Kimura Takuya once said. How many people on the forum were delighted to hear this because it gave us an excuse not to wash our jeans anymore? I'm one of them (they used to be dirty, but not anymore). Levi's CEO, Bergh, has clarified that he never suggested not washing jeans completely and even offered a 'peculiar cleaning method'...

In 2014, Levi's CEO Bergh said that he would never throw his jeans into a washing machine. Combined with what Kimura said, this made more people believe in the 'never wash jeans' maintenance method. However, recently, Bergh stated in a consumer news and business channel program that he had never said not to wash jeans. Bergh also said, 'People who truly love jeans will tell you, never put your jeans in the washing machine,' not only because it's good for the environment but also because it makes the fabric more durable. 'The denim industry consumes a lot of water, half for growing cotton, and the other half when consumers throw their jeans in the washing machine.'

Bergh explained that if his jeans got stained, he would clean the soiled areas by hand, rather than throwing them into the washing machine. He went on to say that if jeans were really 'disgusting' and needed a more thorough cleaning, he had a very 'special' method, which was to wear the jeans into the shower and wash them with soap just like washing his body.

However, when it comes to concerns about bacteria breeding due to not cleaning jeans for a long time, Bergh proposed a unique solution - putting the jeans in the freezer to remove odors and kill bacteria. Despite this, microbiologist Kerry from the University of Delaware pointed out that many bacteria can survive in very low-temperature environments and reproduce when it warms up. She suggested either raising the temperature to 121 degrees Celsius to kill bacteria or simply washing the jeans.

Do you, forum members, think the claim that jeans should not be washed for better maintenance is accurate? In the past, I used to be thrilled by the idea that jeans shouldn't be washed, so I stopped washing them. However, during the pandemic, I got scared and disinfected and washed everything, including my jeans. Nevertheless, I still believe that high-quality jeans shouldn't be casually thrown into the washing machine. Do any of you have any thoughts on this?"

If you don't clean it when it's dirty, the smell becomes unbearable.

Not washing jeans is very dirty; won't it lead to skin sensitivities?

I rarely wear jeans these days, opting for casual pants more often.
