El Salvador's Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Mi Primer Bitcoin (MPB), meaning ""My First Bitcoin,"" will add Bitcoin education to the curriculum of public schools by 2024.
MPB's founder, John Dennehy, confirmed that this is an educational project in collaboration with Bitcoin Beach and the Ministry of Education.
Dennehy stated that the Mi Primer Bitcoin project will become the primary source of materials, and students will receive a graduation certificate.
He mentioned that training for the pilot program will commence on September 7th with the assistance of Bitcoin Beach. Bitcoin courses will be taught to 150 public school teachers from 75 different schools, providing them with the ""foundational knowledge"" of Bitcoin.
""As the first country to adopt Bitcoin, El Salvador will set an example for the world. Quality education is our best chance to ensure we become a positive example.""
Dennehy explained that after the initial training, teachers will return to their respective schools and teach according to the curriculum set by the Ministry of Education. ""If successful,"" he said, ""the plan will be expanded to all schools nationwide next year.""
""Two years ago, when my first Bitcoin was born, one of my dreams was to educate a nation. This is an important step towards that goal.""
In a recent interview with Bitcoin Beach, community leader Roman Martínez stated that over 25,000 students in El Salvador have already learned about Bitcoin in classrooms.
Dennehy mentioned that although El Salvador is the current focus, their mission is to advance Bitcoin education globally.
""El Salvador is taking the lead in public Bitcoin education, and we hope other countries will follow suit. The whole world is watching.""
He noted that MPB has already initiated early discussions with two other non-profit organizations in Latin America that are interested in implementing El Salvador-style Bitcoin education for local students. |
