Bank of America analyst Sean Kelly emphasized the potential link between obesity and problem gambling. In the midst of these changes, gaming giants like Boyd Gaming, Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts International, Penn National Gaming, and Red Rock Resorts find themselves in the spotlight. Major operators on the Las Vegas Strip like MGM and Caesars could benefit as weight loss encourages more people to travel. However, regional operators with a significant presence in Nevada, such as Boyd Gaming and Penn National Gaming, may face challenges due to the shift towards healthier lifestyles.
The gaming industry is not the only one under scrutiny. If passengers lose weight, airlines, especially carriers like United Airlines, could save significant expenses. United Airlines could potentially save $80 million annually if each passenger sheds just 10 pounds, reducing overall fuel consumption. Analysts believe this trend may be acknowledged by other major airlines such as Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Spirit Airlines.
