On November 20th, news emerged that Microsoft, as OpenAI's largest supporter, is considering a role on its board, particularly with the potential return of former CEO Sam Altman to the development team of ChatGPT. Microsoft may take on a position as a board member or an observer, the latter of which would not have voting rights. This move is part of the efforts made by OpenAI's major supporter and senior leadership to rehire Altman.

Reportedly, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has personally assisted OpenAI's interim CEO Mira Murati in these discussions. Additionally, if Altman is unable to rejoin OpenAI, Microsoft will consider investing in Altman's new venture. Microsoft has already invested over $11 billion in OpenAI, primarily in the form of computing resources, making its technology a core part of Microsoft's AI endeavors, including integrating chatbots into the Bing search engine and introducing new tools in Office 365 software.
