On the early morning of December 7th, Luke Dashjr responded to a user on X, indicating some room for the survival of opcodes without the need to eliminate all of them for Bitcoin to benefit. On December 6th, the Bitcoin Core core developer launched a criticism against the recently popularized Bitcoin opcodes, stating that those encoding and engraving data for Bitcoin's smallest unit "sat" were "exploiting vulnerabilities in Bitcoin Core by sending junk information to the blockchain network," creating a "scam" that could impact Bitcoin adoption and indirectly harm the value of BTC.

Bitcoin Core is the software system for the Bitcoin network. Luke, in subsequent responses to users, mentioned fixing the vulnerability before the V27 version next year, implying that opcodes will no longer exist in the Bitcoin network.

Luke's statements and responses immediately caused a stir. The price of ORD1, the most popular token in the opcode market, experienced significant fluctuations, dropping from around $60 to $40 at one point.

The debate over whether Bitcoin Core should and has the power to eliminate opcodes not only revealed the opposition between Bitcoin miners and core developers but also sparked concerns about a potential hard fork of Bitcoin, bringing back memories of the "2017 fork event" for many in the cryptocurrency community.

It's worth noting that the way Sats are encoded due to the Ordinals protocol and the issuance of encrypted assets on the Bitcoin network using the BRC-20 method has created a trillion-dollar market since the beginning of the year. There are millions of opcodes circulating, held by hundreds of thousands of people, and the congestion caused on the Bitcoin network has brought substantial transaction fee income to the mining community.

Participants in the opcode ecosystem and some miners naturally stood together, opposing the hasty repair of the "so-called vulnerability" by Bitcoin Core represented by Luke. The controversy somewhat subsided with Luke's statement on December 7th, and more solutions for handling opcodes quickly emerged.

Bitcoin opcodes have once again become the center of attention in this "game," revealing a Bitcoin ecosystem that is hungry for diversity and growth.
