On June 16, 2023, the NBA officially announced its disciplinary decision regarding Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant's repeated use of inappropriate conduct. Morant has been suspended for 25 games and must fulfill specific conditions before being allowed to rejoin the team.
Morant had initially received an 8-game suspension for his involvement in an incident at a nightclub in Denver. However, a little over a month later, he once again engaged in inappropriate conduct that violated the league's previous statement.
In the NBA's official statement, Morant will be suspended for 25 games, causing him to miss the first 25 games of the 2023-24 NBA regular season. During this suspension period, he will not be eligible to participate in any league-sanctioned games or training activities, including preseason games. Additionally, Morant is required to fulfill undisclosed conditions before being allowed to return to play.
NBA President Xiao Hua stated in an official declaration, ""Morant's continued use of inappropriate conduct on social media is shocking and concerning, given that he had previously been suspended for similar behavior in March. We believe that a 25-game suspension is appropriate. The league has a zero-tolerance policy for such reckless actions. Before he returns to the court, he will be required to work with the league to develop and execute a plan to address the underlying issues that have led to his repeating this destructive behavior."" |
