In February of this year, Liverpool's 2-5 defeat to Real Madrid doesn't necessarily indicate a significant gap between Premier League and La Liga teams. The current state of Liverpool this season has been quite disappointing, while Real Madrid remains in contention for the La Liga title. These two teams are not operating at the same level, so Real Madrid defeating Liverpool can be considered quite normal.

However, there are other factors to consider. Does Liverpool always lose to Real Madrid even when they are at their peak? If you look at their past records, Real Madrid has defeated Liverpool in two Champions League finals. So, it could be said that Real Madrid is somewhat of a nemesis for Liverpool.

In recent years, Liverpool has been one of the strongest teams in the Premier League, alongside teams like Manchester City, who are consistently favorites to win the league. However, they have struggled to secure Champions League titles, leading some to mock the Premier League teams for spending big on transfers and having high exposure but not performing well in Europe compared to teams that invest less.

The main reason for this might be the intense competition within the Premier League itself. In leagues like La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1, there are typically two to three top-tier teams, allowing them to rotate their squads in domestic matches without affecting their performance in European competitions. However, the Premier League is different. Even relegation-threatened teams have significant investments, making every match highly competitive. Every point matters in the Premier League, whether it's for the title race, top-four finish, or avoiding relegation. This intense competition in the league often affects the performance of English teams in European competitions like the Champions League.

This makes one wonder if it could be match-fixing, doesn't it?
