Kakarot is a zkEVM built using Cairo, a verifiable language designed to support Starknet and all StarknetOS chains (also known as CairoVM chains or Starknet application chains). Kakarot is an Ethereum-compatible zkRollup with the goal of achieving uncompromised full equivalence over time. In addition to compatibility, Kakarot also strives to drive more innovation in the L2 space and introduce new features for the EVM, such as native account abstraction. The driving spirit behind Kakarot is proof, scalability, and innovation.

In this article, we will explore what sets Kakarot apart and why it is significant for end-users and builders. After years of development in the Ethereum ecosystem, we have formed three firm beliefs that we aim to address and achieve through Kakarot.

1. TPS surpassing a certain threshold is no longer important. Users desire a response level comparable to web2 applications and fast web3 dApps. In other words, users want sub-second transaction speeds. This often means achieving 10,000 TPS would still take several years (we still need to address state growth issues together).

2. Transaction costs are a major adoption barrier. As Vitalik stated in a blog post, "I think the main driver of this shift (reduction in openness in web3) is the rise in transaction fees." Transaction costs should ultimately drop to less than a penny to allow people to experiment and innovate freely.

3. Another significant obstacle to widespread adoption is user experience. At Kakarot, we believe that the current state of the web3 user experience needs significant improvement. For instance, our goal is to provide an alternative for those who don't want to manage mnemonic phrases or those seeking a one-click experience for most dApps (i.e., multi-calls).

Summing up these three points, Kakarot forms its commitment to users and its position in the current Ethereum rollup competition: Kakarot aims to lead in user-centric innovation based on account abstraction (multi-calls, secure enclave signer, etc.) and rapid feature deployment (e.g., ahead of most similar EIPs) while providing low-cost, fast transactions.
