The main reason behind this is, in fact, somewhat related to Manchester City.

Notably, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have claimed the majority of the crucial UEFA Champions League titles over the past decade. Manchester City, as the Premier League powerhouse, has consistently been one of the favorites in the Champions League but has been unexpectedly eliminated every time. Some fans even mockingly say that Manchester City excels in domestic clashes but falters in European competition.

The arrival of Pep Guardiola didn't change this situation, and despite his numerous accolades, Guardiola himself has a vulnerability. Since leading Barcelona, with the likes of Messi, to the UEFA Champions League title in 2011, he hasn't managed to win the Champions League again, whether at Bayern Munich or Manchester City. As a result, many criticize Guardiola, suggesting that without Messi, he can't guide a team to Champions League success. They argue that winning league titles is easy for him, given Bayern's dominance in the Bundesliga and Manchester City's significant investment, and it doesn't truly showcase Guardiola's coaching prowess.

The claim that anyone could win the league with such teams is undoubtedly an oversimplification, but Guardiola does need to secure another Champions League title to put these controversies to rest.
