India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was the star of the show in the second Test win over Australia in Visakhapatnam, could be given a breather for the third Test in Rajkot. The selectors, in consultation with the team management, are mulling over resting Bumrah for the Rajkot Test to ensure he is fresh and fit for the last two Tests of the series. Bumrah bagged nine wickets for 91 runs in the second Test and was adjudged the player of the match for his superb display.

Bumrah bowled more than 32 overs in four gruelling days in a high-pressure game, where he showed his class and skill, but also drained his energy levels. The selectors are aware of the need for Bumrah to recover and recharge. In the first Test in Hyderabad, where India lost unexpectedly, he bowled nearly 25 overs. The selectors are keen to give Bumrah some well-earned rest.Mohammed Siraj, who was rested for the second Test, is likely to be brought back by the selectors. It is clear that Siraj will lead the pace attack in the third Test before teaming up with Bumrah for the final two Tests of the series. The team selection is expected to be finalised on Tuesday (February 6).

Managing the workload of the two fast bowlers has become crucial, as Mohammed Shami, the other match-winner in the pace department, is not yet available for international duty. As per Cricbuzz, Shami was flown to London for treatment for his troublesome ankle, and his recovery period is expected to be longer than initially thought.
