According to "The Information," rumors have it that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is collaborating with Microsoft to build a massive data center in the United States, aiming to create a series of supercomputers. The centerpiece of this collaboration is an AI supercomputer named "Stargate," expected to be launched in 2028.

There were previous rumors suggesting that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was raising a staggering $7 trillion in funding to establish a semiconductor factory, seeking to reshape chip and AI products. Today's deal appears to be another massive investment.

This collaborative project is expected to cost over $115 billion, far exceeding the costs of some of the largest data centers currently. Sources revealed that Microsoft would provide funding support, which is more than three times its capital expenditure on servers, buildings, and other equipment last year. The supercomputers to be developed by Microsoft and OpenAI will be divided into five stages, with "Stargate" being the fifth stage.

It is reported that the fourth-stage supercomputer will be built in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, with relatively lower specifications and costs, expected to be launched around 2026. Currently, they are in the mid-stage of the third stage of the five-stage plan. The costs of the next two stages will largely involve purchasing AI chips. Therefore, Microsoft and OpenAI are exploring the use of alternative energy sources, such as nuclear power, to meet the enormous power demand and reduce reliance on companies like NVIDIA.
