According to Eyewitness News, Houston Rockets player Kevin Porter has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend, a WNBA player, in a hotel. The 23-year-old Porter is currently detained at the New York City Police Department's 17th Precinct.
Porter returned early Monday morning from a Millennium Hotel in Times Square, where he and his girlfriend were staying. According to police reports, the victim was unhappy with his late return and locked the hotel room door. Porter is accused of physically assaulting the woman after hotel security intervened. The extent of the victim's injuries is currently unclear.
His girlfriend has filed domestic violence charges against Porter, and the case is awaiting trial.
Rockets reporter Adam Spolane analyzed Porter's contract situation. Porter signed a 4-year, $63 million extension contract with the Rockets last season, averaging $15.86 million per year. Only the 2023-24 season is fully guaranteed; the 2024-25 season has only a $1 million guarantee. The contract also includes various guarantee mechanisms based on roster status in subsequent seasons." |
