"In June, the England national football team defeated North Macedonia 7-0 in the European Championship qualifiers. Their starting players were in top form, scoring five goals, and they had substitutes like Grealish, Foden, and Phillips, all of whom are Premier League champions. It's truly impressive to see the strength and depth of England's squad.
I'm a devoted fan of the English Premier League and often enjoy discussing its matches. I also have a special fondness for watching the England national team play, as many of my favorite players are a part of it. However, it's been quite some time since England won a major international tournament, whether it's the European Championship or the World Cup.
Despite having a wealth of talented players, England has narrowly missed out on championships time and again. This has led to the perception that England is a ""paper tiger"" – strong on paper but underwhelming in reality. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that this generation of English players will eventually have their golden era. Mainstays like Saka, Rashford, and Rice are not even in their prime yet, so with good health and continued development, they have a great chance.
I've always believed that the strength of a national team is closely tied to the quality of the domestic league. In recent years, when La Liga was dominant, the Spanish national team achieved significant success on the international stage. Now that the Premier League has become the top league, the English Football Association has implemented various policies to encourage clubs to develop local talent. This has resulted in a surge of talented English players, and it's only natural that this generation is thriving. It's a testament to the collective efforts made in improving the sport.
So, the strength or weakness of a domestic league can indeed impact the national team's performance. The domestic league is like the soil, and if it's in poor condition, the national team shouldn't expect to become strong." |
