The D/L method or the Duckworth-Lewis Method is one of the more controversial applications in cricket today. The method is used to calculate the revised play in a rain-hit or a delayed match. Why is it controversial?

The D/L method or the Duckworth/ Lewis method is controversial because it sides more with the wicket column instead of considering the number of overs remaining. In short, a team that has a slow start is at a disadvantage. Thus, the method is controversial as labeled by players, fans, and critics.

The D/L method doesn’t consider numerous factors. For instance, if a game is halted with a team after batting 25 overs and they have scored 120 runs, the revised target for a team chasing can come down to 50 runs in 6 overs. A team with all 10 wickets in hand can chase the target down. This is why it is controversial.

Because it takes all the hard work of a batsman/bowler in different situations. The game turns on its head with the usage of the D/L method and so are the results.
