Roulette is a common casino gambling game, and the word "Roulette" means a small wheel in French. A roulette wheel typically contains 37 or 38 numbers, and it is the croupier's responsibility to release a small ball onto the spinning wheel. The number on which the ball lands becomes the winning number.
The numbers on the roulette wheel are usually divided into red and black colors, but the arrangement of numbers is not in sequential order. There are two common types of roulette wheels: American and European. The American roulette wheel has 38 numbers, including numbers 1 to 36, 0, and 00, while the European roulette wheel has 37 numbers, including numbers 1 to 36 and 0. In addition to red and black, the 0 and 00 numbers on the wheel are green in color. There is also a French roulette wheel, which has only 25 numbers, including numbers 1 to 24 and 0. The main differences with the French roulette wheel are the larger ball used and the wavelike arrangement of numbers.
Because there are various ways to place bets on the roulette wheel, and many players like to bet on multiple numbers, American roulette tables often use colored chips to distinguish which bets belong to each player. However, in many casinos, cash chips can also be used for betting. Since colored chips cannot be directly exchanged for cash, players typically exchange their colored chips for cash chips when they leave the roulette table. The croupier places a glass or metal marker, known as a dolly, on top of the winning number's chip stack, so when a player's bet wins, the croupier pays out the winnings to the player, and the original bet remains in place. |
