The classic movie "Titanic" is undoubtedly a beautiful memory in the hearts of countless people. The film is filled with numerous iconic scenes that are still talked about to this day. However, its poignant and tragic ending has left some people unable to forget it for a long time. As a result, some have raised questions, suggesting that in fact, both Jack and Rose, the main characters, could have survived together without the need for Jack's sacrifice. This questioning has persisted for 25 years, and this year, "Titanic" director James Cameron finally responded to this question, admitting that Jack and Rose could indeed have survived in the environment of that time!
In the movie's ending, as the Titanic sinks, Jack and Rose find themselves floating together on a piece of debris in the icy ocean. They both cling to a floating door, and eventually, Jack chooses to give the door to Rose to ensure her survival, while he faces the icy depths as his final fate. This scene is one of the most iconic moments in cinematic history. However, this same scene has left many viewers feeling unsettled, as the floating door appears large enough for both of them to stay afloat while waiting for rescue. If they had taken the time to consider their own survival, they might have had a happier ending.
This questioning has persisted for over two decades. This year, director James Cameron conducted an experiment during the movie's 25th-anniversary celebration event to address this question. Two stunt performers recreated the film's iconic scene in a controlled environment and conducted a series of tests. The final result proved that both Jack and Rose could have stayed afloat on the door with the right balance. In other words, Jack could have indeed survived.
Cameron acknowledged the results of the experiment and admitted that Jack could have survived at the time. However, he also added that there were many variables in that situation. From Jack's perspective, he had the idea of ""not letting Rose take the slightest risk,"" so in the end, Jack might still have chosen to sacrifice himself. This goes to show that, no matter how everyone tries to come up with various ways to let Jack survive, for Cameron, Jack had to die to leave a profound impression on his audience, making it a sort of plot twist. Some netizens then joked that this was due to an uncontrollable mysterious force that caused Jack's death, which was really unfair!
"Titanic" is a movie I really love and have watched countless times. Despite not being a fan of tragic endings, the excellence of "Titanic" is enough to leave a lasting impression. Hopefully, in the future, we will see more movies with the quality of "Titanic." |
