"According to Forbes' recent statistics on the most profitable sports teams, surprisingly, Tottenham Hotspur is the most profitable Premier League club over the past three years, earning £333 million. This result might come as a surprise to many, as clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, or Manchester United are often associated with financial success.
Forbes' list predominantly features NBA and NFL teams, which isn't surprising given the strong commercial aspects of American sports. However, in the English Premier League, many would have expected Manchester City to be the top earner, given their success on the pitch and significant earnings from player sales in recent years. Nevertheless, it turns out that Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as the most profitable Premier League club in the past three years, highlighting their prowess in the commercial sphere, even though their on-field performance has been somewhat lacking.
Among the English Premier League clubs, Manchester United ranks fifth overall, coming in as the second-highest earner among English clubs, with earnings of £329 million. This is consistent with their immense fan base and commercial appeal, despite some fluctuations in their on-field performance in recent years.
Manchester City and Liverpool, both representing the Premier League prominently in recent years with numerous trophies, also find themselves on the list.
Interestingly, apart from English Premier League teams, the only other football club in the top 25 is Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga. Surprisingly, traditional football powerhouses like Real Madrid and Barcelona didn't make the list, indicating that there is room for further development in the commercial aspects of football when compared to the NFL and NBA." |
